What to do with left-over Mince Meat Sauce?

So the other day, we did something really crazy but it actually blew our minds…..are you ready for this? We made some “Curly Dogs”. What are those you ask? Well, this is what happens when you have left-overs and you don’t feel like cooking but you’re hungry. We had some brioche rolls that were about to go out of date, some left over Mince meat sauce and some shredded cheddar cheese. Yes, it’s totally random but we tried this experiment and we were pleasantly surprised. Here’s how we made our “Curly Dogs”.

INGREDIENTS: 2 – 3 Brioche rolls, left over Mince meat sauce, Shredded cheddar cheese (optional) and Butter spread.

  • Pre-heat your oven to 150 degrees – you’re going to need it soon.
  • Grab 1 hot dog bun and make and at the centre, make an incision from the top to the bottom (making sure you don’t fully cut the bun in half – y’all know what I mean).
  • Using a table knife, spread some butter lightly on both sides of the bun.

  • With a tea spoon, gently place some mince meat sauce (recipe found on my previous blog post) on the buttered area (you can put as much as you want).
  • Then sprinkle lightly some shredded cheese on top of the mince meat.
  • Repeat Step One and Two till all you Hot dog buns are filled.

  • Place your filled buns unto an oven tray and gently place inside the oven for 2 – 3 minutes.
  • Carefully take out your buns from the oven and Viola! You are ready to munch.

Spicy Mince Meat Sauce

Mince meat sauce is one of those sauces that can go well with a lot of things, Rice (yes, rice!), Pasta, Spaghetti, Cous Cous and many more, depending on how crazy you wanna get :D. The beauty of this recipe is that it only takes 20 minutes to make and its so yummy, OMG.

INGREDIENTS: 100-150g of mince meat (lean mince meat – for my healthy guys or quorn mince for my vegetarians), 1 Onion (red or white), 2 medium sized tomatoes (or 1 tin of chopped tomatoes), 3 Bell peppers (Red, Yellow, Green) or Frozen mixed peppers, 1 scotch bonnet, Vegetable oil, Salt, Knor cubes, Curry, Thyme, Garlic & Ginger mince and Ground mixed spice

STEP ONE: Wash your hands guys!!!

  • Using a chopping board, dice the onion, scotch bonnet, bell peppers and fresh tomatoes into small even pieces. If you’re using tin tomatoes and frozen peppers, you only need to dice your onion and scotch bonnet and keep to one side.
  • Grab a deep frying pan or a wok – add 5-7 tsp of vegetable oil and place on your stove on medium heat-high heat.
  • After 2 minutes, add the scotch bonnet and diced onions into your heated pan and lightly stir around for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add in 1 tsp of garlic and ginger mince – stir

  • Add in your mince and stir into the satay-ed onions – keep stirring for about 5 minutes till the mince turns grey-ish on all sides.
  • Add in your diced peppers or frozen mixed peppers and stir for 2 minutes. You can add in a few tsp of oil if needed and keep the heat to medium.
  • Add in your chopped tomatoes or tin of chopped tomatoes and stir thoroughly in the pan. Leave to fry for another 5-7 minutes with constant stirring to avoid burning.

  • After 5-7 minutes, add in 2tsp of curry, half a tsp of salt, 1 tsp of thyme, 1 tsp of ground mixed spice and 2 (crushed) knor cubes and thoroughly mix into the mince.
  • Leave to fry for another 3 minutes and taste.
  • You can add some black pepper for those who like it really spicy – try not to add more salt though but perhaps another knor cube.
  • Turn off the stove and leave the pan to fry till the heat goes completely out
  • Your mince meat sauce is ready to be served!

Look at how the sun paid us a visit this summer guys…WAWU, summer is officially here!!! So lets bring out all our cold drinks and enjoy the sunshine while it last. I’ve got an awesome and super simple Mocktail recipe for you that would blow your taste buds and keep you so chilled under this beautiful sun. I bring to you, a Yemides’ Kitchen special “Ye-Hito” which is my little spin on a Mohito mocktail. Better grab a tall glass cos you’re gonna wish you made more after this.

INGREDIENTS: Ice, Fresh raspberries, Mint leaves, 1 Lime, 1 Lemon and 7up (you could also use Soda water, Lemonade or Sprite).

  • Yes, I know you’re only making a drink this time, but you still gotta wash them hands y’all!
  • Grab a tall glass – this is where all your ingredients will go into.
  • Wash about 5-7 raspberries (depending on how much you like raspberries) and add into your glass. Note: if your’re not a fan of raspberries you can eliminate them and carry on the next step, it just means you’ll be having a Virgin Ye-Hito!
  • Using the back of a tablespoon, carefully crush the raspberries in your glass untill all the juices come out.

  • Grab a knife and cut 1 lemon in half and 1 lime in half.
  • Place a little strainer on top of your glass, and squeeze the lemon and lime halves over it so the juices go into your glass without any seeds.
  • Add 5-7 mint leaves into your glass and using your table spoon, stir thoroughly till all the ingredients are mixed together.

  • Fill up your glass with ice.
  • Add in your 7up/lemonande/soda water or sprite to fill up the glass.
  • Using the long part of a table spoon, stir the contents of the glass gently.
  • You can also add a piece of red grape on top and 2 mint leaves for garnishing – this is just for presentation!
  • And your Ye-Hito or Virgin Ye-Hito is ready to drink.
